How to Fix iRobot App Not Working Issue

Rounding up all of the tried and tested fixes available, here's what you can do to get the Roomba app up and running again.

Solution #1 – Force Close the App

For iRobot App on iOS:

  1. Press the Home button on your iPhone or swipe up to view the home screen (iPhone X and newer).
  2. Double-press the Home button (or swipe up and hold on iPhone X and newer) to view the background apps.
  3. Scroll through the list of apps by moving left and right until you find the iRobot Home app. Swipe up on the app screen to force close it.

For iRobot App on Android:

  1. Head over to the Settings app on your Android phone.
  2. Scroll down to find Apps or Application manager from the list of services.
  3. In the app list, scroll through to find iRobot Home and tap on it.
  4. Press the Force Stop button and confirm your action.

Solution #2 – Check the connectivity

  1. Make sure that your mobile phone and the Roomba are connected to the same wireless network.
  2. Use another device to test the internet connection and confirm that it is working.
  3. Ensure that the Roomba and the Home Base docking station are situated close to the wireless router for maximum signal reach.

Solution #3 – Reconnect Roomba to iRobot App

Step 1: Reset the Roomba

Roomba S & I Series: Press and hold the CLEAN button on your Roomba for 20 seconds. Wait for the bin lid LED light to glow clockwise in white.

Roomba 700, 800, 900 Series: Press and hold the CLEAN button and wait for 10 seconds. The robot vacuum will then play a reboot tone, notifying that the device is being reset.

Step 2: Uninstall and reinstall the iRobot App

On iOS: Find the iRobot Home icon on the home screen, press, and hold the icon until all the app icons start shaking. Press the red uninstall button on the app icon and confirm your action.

On Android: Press and hold the app icon until you see the Uninstall option. Similarly, you can drag the app icon to the top part of the screen and drop it on the Uninstall button to remove it.

With the Roomba reset done and the app reinstalled, set things up as you would the very first time.

  1. Launch the iRobot Home app and make sure the Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Set the Roomba name and make sure the device is within the range of the wireless network.
  3. Select the Wi-Fi network you want the Roomba to connect to and enter the Wi-Fi password.
  4. Place the Roomba on its base, press and hold the Home and SPOT Clean buttons together until you hear a tone.
  5. Confirm this action on the mobile app and wait for the Roomba to be connected with the mobile app.
